High Quality of Life Lends Utah Residents Air of Contentment

Utah residents enjoy life. And why shouldn't they? They live in a state that encompasses five national parks, seven national monuments, two national recreation areas, six national forests, and 14 world-class ski resorts. The cost of living is low, and the focus on family life and leisure activities -- spanning the spectrum from hunting and fishing to golf, hiking, camping, rock climbing and river rafting -- is high.

Sports enthusiasts enjoy following the eleven professional sports teams that call Utah home, while those who appreciate good food and drink frequent the state's fine restaurants, nightclubs and microbreweries.

A variety of religions gather in Utah, as well. While much of the population is made up of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, active congregations of over 30 different denominations—including Methodist, Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Eastern Orthodox, Buddhist, Muslim and Jewish congregations— meet weekly in Salt Lake Valley. Religious diversity and interfaith cooperation is a defining characteristic of the state.

In addition, residents enjoy the fact that Utah has the sixth lowest crime rate in the nation, short commute times, abundant public transportation, and plenty of sunshine. With all that and more contributing to their quality of life, residents are happy—and they show it. Visitors often call the state the friendliest in the nation.
