Cooler temperatures, thick aspen forests, pristine lakes and rugged, high elevations characterize Utah’s northern tip. From the shores of Bear Lake to the rocky peaks of the Unita National Forest with its 500 miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails, the north is a must-experience Utah destination.
The eastern region of Utah provides not only miles of intricate trails for mountain biking, but also breathtaking views of some of Utah’s greatest: The Flaming Gorge, San Rafael Swell and Goblin Valley State Park.
Toward the central region of the Beehive State, bikers can try their skills and nerves while cycling up Skyline Drive, one of the nation’s highest unpaved roads. This trail follows the spine of the Wasatch Plateau with elevations at 9,000 to 11,000 feet. Rated as one of the best 15 trails in the country by Dirt Wheels Magazine, the Paiute ATV Trail allows cyclists to explore over 800 miles of marked offshoots and more than 1,000 miles of side roads through twisting canyons and foothills.
Southeastern Utah is home to the center of the mountain biking universe, or in other words, the Moab Slickrock Bike Trail. Because of the terrain, the biking surface feels like sandpaper under your bike tires, giving you extreme grip for vertical climbs.
Bryce Canyon National Park and Zion’s National Park are two of Utah’s most acclaimed parks. Ranked the second most scenic trails in the country, Bryce Canyon lures bikers in with its massive amount of trails which twist and turn at the base of colossal pillars of stone. Cyclists should also not miss Zion’s naturally mysterious beauty with its towering cliffs looming 3000 feet overhead, incredible arches and unspoiled waterfalls.
Utah has hundreds ofbike trails scattered about cosmopolitan areas like the foothills and canyons that line the Wasatch Front from Provo up to Ogden.. The resort town of Park City is also a popular biking location. Before the Mountain Trails Foundation (MTF), there was only 10 or15 miles of trail. Since 1994, Park City has over 150 miles of public trails ideal for hiking and biking.
From lush forest to desert, this terrain has made it possible for all groups of people, whether you are a lone rider or a family of five, to enjoy the beauty in every region. Utah moutain biking doesn’t get any better than this!
