| Company Description: |
GuestSpan brings in-room concierge service to business traveler class hotels, providing guests with self-service, information on the local community and many additional services lacking from the hotel environment.
For hotels, GuestSpan provides additional revenue, operational efficiencies and a powerful differentiator through the system. |
| Background: |
After a number of trips to different city, both founders were frustrated with the level of service in common business traveler class hotels. Not only was the guest staff unable to recommend good restaurants or interesting things in the community, the guest guides in the room were filled with too many advertisements, but no feedback from previous guests.
On one particular trip, while reading Thomas Freidman’s book, “The World is Flat,” the founders conceived the idea at first to outsource guest service and concierge personnel to a central location. However, as the concept built, it became apparent that people were not necessary in the guest satisfaction equation and the automated in-room touch screen concierge (affectionately referred to as “the doodad”) was born.
Recognizing that the solution had to be affordable, engaging and a revenue generator, the founders enlisted the help of leaders in the hospitality industry, both in business and academia.
For 18 months, the idea brewed and small steps were taken. The founders jumped in full-time early in 2008 and have been running with their hair on fire ever since. |
