The Utah Entrepreneur Challenge — a statewide, student-run entrepreneur competition — announced the top 30 teams for its 2011 competition recently.
These top 30 teams come from universities and colleges throughout Utah. Over 130 student teams registered for the yearly competition. Initial registrants were asked to submit a four- to seven-page executive summary, describing a business they have developed. The 30 teams that have advanced will submit a full-length business plan.
“Each year, hundreds of students submit their business idea into the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge. The ideas generated from these student entrepreneurs are amazing,” said Hailame Kaufusi, a Utah Entrepreneur Challenge chair.
Ten finalists will be selected from the top 30 teams and will pitch their business idea to a panel of industry professionals. The winning team will be announced at the Utah Entrepreneurs Challenge’s annual final awards banquet held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the University of Utah Rice Eccles Stadium Tower. Over $60,000 in prize money, sponsored by Zions Bank, will be awarded to help start their business.
The Utah Entrepreneur Challenge is managed by the Pierre Lassonde Entrepreneur Center at the University of Utah, sponsored by Zions Bank. Hundreds of university and college students participate in competition, which awards cash and in-kind prizes to student entrepreneurs every year.
